Invictus [F1] Round 4: German Grand Prix - 19th July 2017
« on: July 13, 2017, 11:03:25 am »
IRL F1 World Championship
Round 4
German Grand Prix

Round 4 of the Invictus World Championship moves through continental Europe to the German Grand Prix , currently hosted at the Hockenheimring situated in the Rhine valley near the town of Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Originally built in 1932, using roads in the forest as an alternative to the Wildpark-Circuit in Karlsruhe, the Hockenheimring was used for motorcycle racing and was expanded to be used as test track for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union in 1936; the original circuit was almost eight kilometres long and consisted of two long straights with a long "Eastern" corner in the forest and a U-turn inside Hockenheim joining them together.

In the early 2000s, F1 officials demanded the 6.823 km (4.240 mi) track be shortened and threatened to discontinue racing there, due to competition from other tracks such as the EuroSpeedway Lausitz and sites in Asia. As a result the track was re-designed by Hermann Tilke for the 2002 German Grand Prix. The stadium section remained mostly intact, despite a new surface and a tighter Turn 1. However, the circuit was dramatically shortened, with the long, forested straights section chopped off in favour of more tight corners. In an extremely controversial move, the old forest section was torn up and replanted with trees, eliminating any chance of using the old course either for future F1 events or for historic car events. There was and still remains a great deal of criticism of the track redesign, in terms of ruining the previous unique technical challenges of the old Hockenheim circuit and delivering a new homogenised "assembly line" circuit without the character of the previous layout, whilst being beset by the perceived problems of other Tilke circuits.

The British Grand Prix provided challenging changing conditions. Phil secured Pole and took an early lead over TamLad in the other McLaren, but a technical failure meant that he had his second DNF of the season. TamLad looked to have the race pace to secure victory but a mistake in strategy meant that he finished in second, losing out on victory where LK0299 finished first at the British Grand Prix. A bold strategy choice from Mike, choosing not to Qualify and start on the HARD tyres meant that he secured the final podium position, finishing in third. FabulousChicken also suffered a technical failure at Silverstone and will be hoping for better things in Germany. It was disaster for Torro Rosso Driver Craig who looked as though he had no pace, surely he needs solid results if he's to mount a serious Title challenge. New addition NotoriousL_I_P started his Invictus career with a solid 4th place finish, while Nitrogash who had a fuel leak in Qualfying and couldn't participate secured 5th after starting at the back of the Grid.

Firstly I'd like to say thank you for the invite to race alongside you all, it was a great race debut for myself and it was great to battle wheel to wheel, a lot of trust in all the drivers and likewise from myself.

Qualified: 6th.

Quali lap, my wheel didn't work into turn 1, compromised my lap some what.
Race got away cleanly and up Kieran's bonnet, the video shows my race.

The video is 13 minutes long, it has no volume.

Q18, invalidated my lap turn 1

R6, bit annoyed to lose P5 to gamingfreak by 0.006 but a very enjoyable debut, a few failed overtakes on Mike aside I had a pretty clean race bar the penalty and my pace in clean air was quite strong, tyre wear is always my weakspot but managed a M-M-S strategy here pretty easily. This is quite a strong track for me.

Thanks letting me join this league, the realistic performance is something different but I think I will like it

R - P10

As I saw the differential at 75% and front wing 6 I knew i am screwed as the game decided to put me on default setup.
I started on the Mediums and of course I also part broke my right side of the wing, so the car was  so hard to drive
I decided to pit on lap 7 for Mediums again trying to stay out as long as possible.
I couldn't defent properly as I had no top speed and default brake pressure is so low it meant i had to brake early.
I guess I was a big annoyance to some :)

of we go to USA and I hope no more problems like today...

Firstly thanks Craig for letting me race on a fortnightly basis. Hopefully as we grow a monday slot will come available :)

Secondly, wow 20 racers. Never seen that many before!!

Qualified: 4th

Was originally 14th so stuck to softs for the one shot thing. Very surprised to get 4th

Race: 1st

Never saw that coming at all. I had been practising using a low downforce set up but changed at the last minute and went for a tyre friendly one. Started on softs, pitted lap 9 i think. Did two stints on mediums and somehow managed to hold off for a maiden IRL win.

I cant race next week but i will be able to practice on monday evening.

As I complained in chat and in video. Forgetting to choose my setup killed any chance of me competing for a podium. The race was frustrating but fun to see so many people show up.
