IRL F1 World Championship
Round 1
Chinese Grand Prix
Invictus Racing League enters it's second season and begins in Asia. The Chinese Grand Prix, designed by Hermann Tilke is held at Shanghai International Circuit, Jiading, Shanghai. The Shanghai International Circuit was designed to maximise spectator viewing and racing excitement. The track itself is tight and technical with fast speeds and it is one of the few tracks with overtaking opportunities. It has an equal number of right and left-handers, a good mix of corner types, from long sweeps to tight hairpins and a number of straights. The longest straight is over 1km and provides the most obvious overtaking opportunity, driving behind a competitor, it is possible to slipstream along the 1km stretch and get alongside before making a move. Due to the mixed characteristics, the teams look for downforce and mechanical grip for the slower bends, whilst ensuring maximum speed on the long straights. The general consensus after the debut race was that the Shanghai International Circuit is technically demanding from a set-up perspective and also quite tough physically.
